TOPIC: Blair joins Merchant Bank
#25778

Blair joins Merchant Bank 16 Years, 3 Months ago
Tony B-Liar has apparently taken a part-time post with bankers JP Morgan, for half a million a year.

This (we are told) religious man obviously is very selective about the religious texts that he observes - chosing to ignore "thou shall not kill" and completely disregarding "that its harder for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven than for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle".

B-Liar has recently coverted to Roman Catholicism - a religion that he has followed for years but did not feel was politically correct to chose officially whilest PM - another sign of cynicism?

Personally, I'm considering my membership of the RC community. Do I want to be a member of a Church that would have HIM as a member?

I would say you have just shown yourself to be hypocrictical, ignoring "who is without sin; cast the first stone"; which is printed in the Bible I believe, although probably not included in Bible Two!

That's the interesting thing about the Bible - there are very contradictory quotes.

Does the book of Revelations not also say (I paraphrase) that it is the duty of the good (ie me !) to point out the sins of the evil ?

I always thought Blair was a right banker.
This doesn't surprise me though. Banks love to collect trophies to sit on their board and rubber stamp things. No matter that Blair is rather tarnished he is still a good PR exercise for a US bank.

Wonder what 'part-time' means...once a week, month or attending an AGM to make the bank look good?

Pay-back time?

(I wonder if any of JP Morgan directors have had a Knighthood or Peerage recently?)

Interesting theory, although man himself does not have the authority to declare himself good and another evil; that would be God. However, you point out something - contradictions in Christian beliefs from the holy book itself, thus meaning Blair and his six figure position fit nicely in that concept, which explains why any Christian group would welcome him with open arms!

The fact that religion is still so powerful and predominant, particularly in our relatively advanced and well educated Western world, never ceases to amaze me.

Religions have had perhaps 5000 years to persuade me of their beliefs, and have failed to provide one scrap of evidence. The hardliners would even have the nerve to describe me as a heretic or infidel, like it's up to me to provide the evidence that their fairy stories are wrong! If I decide to declare that there are some invisible elves living in my garden shed, then I think the onus is upon me to provide some concrete facts to convince people that I am not insane, not the other way round!

Of course, conveniently, it's all about faith, but why I should have faith in the fanciful inventions of some Middle Eastern desert dwellers thousands of years ago is quite beyond me.

I do apologize if I have offended people with religious convictions. That isn't my intention, and I have no problem with people comforting themselves with faith, as long as they don't keep trying to sell their ideas to me. I almost envy them. It must be nice to believe there is some higher power looking after us, and that we will live on eternally after death. It is a bit ridiculous when you think about it though, isn't it?

To return a bit more specifically to topic, and Mr. Blair, love him or loathe him, his intelligence and high degree of education is indisputable. How the likes of him still buy into religion beggars belief.

I am implacably opposed to all organised religions (check out I Hate CocaCola) but you need to watch Extreme Pilgrims on BBC2 for a tremendous look at them.
