Newcastle - we want Shearer! 16 Years, 3 Months ago
As a lover of Geordies, let's get Shearer in there.

Or bring back Bobby.

By the way Terry Lamps - what about that fantastic French guy who used to be a Chelsea player (Marcel?)... why hasn't he been asked to manage a team?

I like the Geordies too, especially at the moment, as four of Derby's pitiful seven points have come from playing Newcastle!

Shearer would obviously be a popular choice, but a bit risky, as he has no experience, and somehow I don't see him as a successful manager.

I admire Bobby Robson greatly, but he is starting to show his age, and looks a little frail nowadays. I think his working days are over.

A lot of Newcastle fans want to see Keegan as manager with Shearer as his Assistant. Keegan ruled over their most successful era, but I'm not sure if he'd return. I live not far from Toon territory, and my young cousin is a fanatical fan.

Whoever does take over, they will need to be given more time than Big Sam. Management is a long haul job, but few fans or directors have the patience today, especially now that it's more business than sport.

Shearer would be the romantic choice as he is the local hero, however as has already been said he has no experience and he wouldn't want to risk losing his god-like status in Newcastle.

Now RedKnapp has ruled himself out it's difficult to see who could take over. I'm sure Jose wouldn't join a club who realistically don't have a chance of winning trophies.

The reason Alan shearer isn't in management with Newcastle united is because he hasnt completed his UEFA course to be able to manage in the barclays premiership, but...he is currently undergoing this course so who knows....give it time. I am a Bolton wanderers supporter as i live not so far away from Bolton, im going to st james park on saturday, sat in the sir john hall west corner stand, hope we play a little bit better than we did this evening against blackburn rovers. Ryan.

Shearer what a fantastic player but not sure he's management material. Great players don't always make great managers.
Plus he has a cushy job with the BBC, not sure he would want to give that up to take the Newcasle job which undoubtably is a high pressure job.

Why I will never understand foot ball !

Why should anyone assume that Shearer would make a good manager?

He has NIL experience (at any level).

Cliff Richard has sold millions of records for EMI - should he therefor be the new Chairman ?

You don't mean Marcel Desailly JK ? I assume you mean Didier Deschamps who according to the red tops is now one of the favourites after all his success with Monaco.
Marcel is more like Shearer now, in that he is TV pundit, brilliant player though The Rock.

Nobody knows if a manager will be any good until he's been tried. It's worth noting that Keegan had never managed a team before Newcastle. But there are two reasons why Shearer might not want to become Newcastle manager. 1) He hasn't got his Coach's badge yet. 2) If he fails he would lose his hero status among the fans.

He is a very good pundit, however, would he want to swap roles for a football manager's job. That is why Shearer has come out and said 'Newcastle don't want me'.

Mind you, the cost of failure is very tempting on the football stage, McLaren gets 2.5 million for England, Big Sam gets a few million from Newcastle.

Maybe failure is the new success.

So, we'll let him have a little practise shall we, just in case?

Newcastle have had around 7 managers (experienced) in the last 10 years ... the LAST thing they need is for someone to "practise" on them !

Keegan returns !

(So the truth of the matter is that no one else wanted the job?)
