I've started noticing these birds everywhere - they were happily nibbling in my hotel in Morocco, they were on fields by Eurostar in France, they are always on sportsgrounds in London...
Egrets Egrets everywhere... anyone know much about them?
Ah Egrets... Ive had a few....but then I am a bird watcher.
The first egrets in the UK were spotted by very excitable bird watchers in Poole Harbour in only about the mid seventies. Since then they have moved into the heron population of the British Isles much like ther grey squirell did.
They are now very abundant in localised areas and are a very striking sight.
History will tell if they take over from the native Grey Heron, but I suspect it will be very likely .
