TOPIC: Congrats to Obama !

Congrats to Obama ! 16 Years, 2 Months ago
He's taken 11 States so far - with Hillary getting 8. I can never remember a time when the Democrats had TWO such worthy candidates - surely its all over for the Republicans? - can they REALLY recover from the (Republican-caused) mess that they are in?

Their candidates - John McNutter (who actually believes the Iraq invasion was right !) - he's the loony military candidate (do we really need another one of them???

Then there's Mitt (what kind of name is that?) Romney - a Mormon - so a loony religious candidate.

Also Mick Huckabee (a Baptist preacher) - shades of Bible-thumping religious preaching I fear (the loony Neo-Cons will love it - but will the SANE ones?)

There appears to be a longing for a change in the USA - and around Obama I sense a "camelot" atmosphere, not seen since JFK.

Yes Obama seems the best choice out there..but I'd personally like to see a more experienced figure take the reigns...do we want another Carter disaster in the US?
Obama has no real knowledge of how government runs, and all the contacts needed to pull off the necessary deals required to make it all work smoothly.
Hillary of course has ample knowledge, but no Camelot image for her...more a Liealot image.
Republicans, well what a good chance the party has missed to gather round a more centralist/uniting candidate, like say Eisenhower was back in the 1950s.
Seems what's on offer here makes the old 'moral majority' seem quite tame in comparison.
We're entering a world recession, and a change in the balance of power towards Russia/China.
This is why I feel it's no time for a newbie, but for a person with contacts...hence Hillary would be more effective, but far less honest or likeable.

My worry would be that Obama might do well in the States that won't go Democrat (with no hoper Democrat supporters) so could be dangerous as a candidate.

I still think the perfect ticket would be Clinton and Obama - with the VP promised the top gig if he does a good job as an enhanced No2.

Don't know about 'perfect ticket',but it would be a reasonable option.
My personal preference would have been John Edwards,he'd probally have won in 2004,but Kerry lacked the required charisma to swing voters away from Bush.
Still Edwards would make a great VP,for either of the 2 remaining candidates.

Republican Mitt Romney is scrapping his bid for the nomination - leaving the Republican field open for John McNutter !
