TOPIC: D-Day for Hillary !

D-Day for Hillary ! 16 Years, 1 Month ago
Voters in the Texas and Ohio primaries will tomorrow decide Hillary's fate.

After Obama won the last 11 primaries in a row, unless Hillary does spectacularly well tomorrow (unlikely) the Democratic Party is likely to pressure her to quit the race, as its looking increasingly unlikely that she can attract enough delegates from those left to decide.

Also, with the Republican nomination all but swen-up, the Dems will want to focus on their candidate asap, rather than waiting a few more months.

I was watching CNN's Situation Room last night and they were talking about Clinton's new allegations against Obama, that he'd been in secret meetings with Canada about something (can't recall what). The analysts were saying that it came across as a final desperate attempt by Clinton to discredit Obama, and that many Americans are getting fed up with this kind of nasty election tactic. So this could backfire on her. I hope so.

I think Obama could successfully challenge McCain.
If Clinton gets the nomination then it's more likely that McCain will be the next President.

In recent days the Clinton camp has got increasingly more desperate, and launched a series of smear campaigns against Obama.

Looks like Hillary is still in the race.

I still like the idea of Clinton with Obama as VP taking over after he's had 4 - or 8 - years to prove himself.

Yes, a good night for her - but maybe not a good night for the Democrats or the nation?

She is still behind - Barack has 24 States to her 16 - but the continued in-fighting means that a candidate will not be chosen for some time, whereas the Republicans already have their candidate.

But the other side of that coin, ITK, is that the Democrat battle is a good story whereas McCain having been chosen is now a non story, so the Dems will get 1000 times more coverage than the Reps right up to the convention decision.

Which could benefit the Dems.

The first time in a while, I have found the US elections interesting and lots of publicity for Democrats is a good thing.

I suspect if Hilary wins, then I can see Obama teaming up with her as it'll great for US politics.

Whatever happens, that idiot running their country will be gone from power. After his farcical election win in 2000, they need a good leader.

Maybe, JK - but I fear the division will cause voters to see the party as divided.

From CNN -

Early exit polls indicate a distinct "age gap" in both states.

Obama appealed most strongly to younger voters while older voters favored Clinton. Among Ohio Democratic primary voters aged 17 to 29, 65 percent went for Obama, and 34 percent went for Clinton. Among those age 60 and older, Clinton led Obama 67-31 percent.

The same pattern held true in early exit polling from the Texas Democratic primary. Among voters aged 18 to 29, Obama led Clinton 61-39 percent, and among voters 60 and older, Clinton led Obama 63- 36 percent.

---

I think the choice is clear - Obama is fresh, new, has vision, and is the future ... Clinton is old school, and cannot carry the young with her. (Whether the Dems win or not largely depends on whether they can mobilize the youth vote?)

It's now or never, Mike - remember there is ANOTHER Bush (Jeb) waiting in the wings for 2012 !

I think I just saw John Glenn (one time astronaut who I interviewed for Ent USA) standing behind Hillary.

He now looks like a tortoise.

Hang on ITK - where were you shouting "throw in the towel" to Barack when he lost Texas and Ohio?

Well, Obama was STILL in front in both numbers of States (25 now to Hillary's 16) and also in delegates - even after losing those two.

It's looking highly unlikely now that even if Hillary wins ALL remaining delegates (very unlikely) that she could achieve the magic number of 2100 delegates for the nomination - but Obama still could !

US commentators agree that if Hillary continues her campaign she will hand the election to McLoony - by splitting the Democratic vote -

edition.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2...lo.bitter.ending.cnn

Its looking increasing unlikely that Hillary COULD win (the nomination), so she should stand down and unite the party.

Fat chance of her doing that. I don't think she'll concede until the last vote is counted, regardless of the consequences.
