It's Election Day ! 17 Years, 11 Months ago
... for about half the people in the UK. OK, so these are local elections, but most people will use the opportunity to pass judgement on the Government.

D-Day for B-Liar !

I appear to be in the half where it is not election day.. 17 Years, 11 Months ago
..but I can`t remember a time when the government "won" the local elections.
I predict huge gains for the Libs, less gains for the Tories, and a few losses for New Labour. I don`t think it will be very dramatic. I recall, when I was younger, we used to all deliberately vote for an underdog. I predict this will happen on mass today, although I do not think it will change the political spectrum.
Which brings something else in mind, I only met him once, but, how the heck did Lord Sutch fund his political career?

What "political career" Mart? It was just a self funding publicity campaign 17 Years, 11 Months ago
I have to tell you; I had the record for the largest non single issue independent vote - 2,350 I seem to remember in 1977/8? - for a while.
In Epsom and Ewell.
It was great fun.

I didnt know that but....... 17 Years, 11 Months ago
Sutchie had no hits after his campaigns at all, therefore, I agree it was in fun, and a publicity drive.
But for what? There was no product about to come out or anything.
A very lovable British eccentric. He has left a gap, and his friends appear to fill it sometimes.

On the positive side yes; three cheers for our nation's exceptions... 17 Years, 11 Months ago
on the negative side, an addiction to celebrity manifests itself in many ways and can be a very corrosive thing.
You'd be surprised how a desire for fame can take over lives.

Labour's losses 17 Years, 11 Months ago
may not be as great as expected, as in most of the areas polling Labour are defending very poor results last time .... but the pollsters are still predicting the worst results for Labour for 40 years.

Another 20 (40 maybe?) years in the wilderness beckons !

Ah yes but........ 17 Years, 11 Months ago
Harking back to JK`s post, and my post about Sutchie, perhaps the comeback will be the new "Tony Blair and the Party" megamix!
I can hear it all in my head...
The "we must find the weapons on mass destruction speech", over 140 bpm, followed by a rendering of choruses of go weeeeeeeeest, second chorus of go eaaaaaaaaaaast.
An election winner!

Can't see it myself ..... 17 Years, 11 Months ago
but not long to wait to see whether you have ANY potential punters who would buy it (certainly no member of the Labour Party would !!!).

Don't you just long for protest songs to return? 17 Years, 11 Months ago
Not stupid anarchy type ones but subtle, clever ones like Dylan used to make?

Protest songs 17 Years, 11 Months ago
I am afraid I am of an age group, of which the protest theme song would be entitled "There it is, Whatever, Take it".
Is this what the Blair/Bush era has brought us? A note of whatever we think it doesnt make any difference, as we cannot change the world?

RESULTS (so far) - Meltdown for Labour 17 Years, 11 Months ago
Toady B-liar's Labour Party have been pushed into THIRD place in UK politics. The local elections results, if transferred to a General election would give the Tories 40%, Lib Dems 27% and Labour 26% of the poll.

MELTDOWN ! Labour loses - Newcastle-under-Lyme, Derby, Stoke-on-Trent, Bury, Redditch, Barrow-in-Furness, Warrington, Crawley, Lewisham, Bexley, Merton, Blackburn with Darwen, Hammersmith and Fulham, Croydon

With well over 200 losses so far - with many more results to come the Labour party will bitterly regret have allowed Blair to have his way for so long.
