TOPIC: Chancellor King again...
#39036
Chancellor King again... 15 Years, 4 Months ago
Nobody who knows about the economy (not me, I hasten to admit) has answered whether my original idea - scrap VAT altogether for the two months of December and January - would have boosted retail sales at no greater cost than the silly trivial cut of 2.5% for 13 months.

Informed opinion please?

I'd abolish road tax and put a penny straight away on a litre of petrol.

It's a bloody brilliant idea and I may have thought of it first.

But hold on...millions of people may hold off buying things until Xmas and the economy could tank.

Shocking idea that wouldn't work. Certainly not my notion of good economics.

King gets a Fail in economics.

I'm only guessing here hedda, but it was more of a one off scheme to stimulate the economy....you are indeed quite right, with forewarning it would not work....but Ebay and Amazon did use the idea a few years later with black Friday...
...this heatwave is getting too much,I may need to cool off in the pool!
