I posted a message a couple of months back concerning a friend living in Nottingham who had suffered repeated burglaries. He's moved out now and vowed never to go there again. Everybody he knows in that area has been burgled at least twice,he was also mugged just waiting for a bus to take him home and suffered an attempted mugging three weeks later (resulting in a broken jaw for the mugger and a pending court case for assault for my friend).
What you actually have is a small area which is tremendously dangerous, where it's probably 45% likely that you'll be mugged/stabbed/assaulted and have your car stolen/house burgled.Recent high profile shootings only touch the surface of the problem.A major problem being two rival drug/gun gangs fighting it out for territory control. One intrusion from one gang to the other side of town resulted in the murder of 14 year old Danielle Beccan as she walked home from the fair with some friends.
Nottingham is infact a huge but also a beautiful city and 90% of it is very safe and pleasant to live in.
What can be done about the 10% I don't know.
Sadly the high profile gun crime seems to involve black people as both perpetrators and victims in most cases. The less serious crimes are disproportionately lower. Before Nottingham becomes an advertisement for the BNP, it would be nice to see something done, but I'm not sure what?
