Prisons are failing to help former inmates rebuild their lives, according to a survey published today.
Six out of 10 men and almost half of women said prison had not helped them move towards "a law-abiding and useful life upon release". Four out of five of prisoners within a year of release claimed they had been offered no help with resettlement.

The survey, which attracted more than 2,000 responses, 94% of them from men - a figure which mirrors the gender balance of the prison population - was carried out by Inside Time, a free newspaper distributed to every prison.

Check PHOTOS for pic of JK, Jonathan Aitken and Ronnie Campbell MP in the House of Commons revealing the results of the survey and discussing the situation in Britain's prisons.
