Sarah's law 17 Years, 10 Months ago
I really don't think that it is a good idea for people to obtain the names and addresses of convicted paedophilles in their area. I know child abuse is a hideous crime, but ostrasizing people from society like this will only make it work. Why not integrate these people into society, make them feel part of society, thus alleviating one of the reasons they committed a crime in the first place. What will be next, everyone will have to have a list of their past crimes displayed on their front door. Also most cases of child abuse are committed by people known to the family, either relatives or friends of the family, not random strangers. Lets stop this Lynch mob mentality and return to a more civilised society.

Yes someone said with 86% of child abuse being relations, the answer to "where are the paedos?" is "in your own home"!

(Cilla!!! )MeOw!!!! and the claws go back in.

It seems they do not want to make all the people who are on the offenders list avilable.
The names they want avialble are the one who have committed horendous acts on children, and the Police feel they are a danger to the public.
I must say l really have no problem with that idea, my problem are the Lynch mobs, and how the impforamtion will be controlled, and if they get a Lynch mob of 15 people will they all go prison for this?

Children's rights 17 Years, 10 Months ago
Some people say that the rights of children must come before the rights of people on the sex offenders register. They want to make it easier to convict the accused and to have a 'name and shame' policy. What they overlook is the fact that their children will be the next generation of adults open to false allegations of abuse, wrongful conviction and targetting by vigilantes.

Interesting thing about Sarah's Law is that it is unlikely that it would have prevented the death of Sarah Payne, the girl who's death has been so disgracefully exploited by the News of the World.

So, molesting a child is a no-no - but killing them is OK?

Most children who are abused / killed, are attacked by people KNOWN to the family (indeed, often family members) at a time when their parents OUGHT to have been looking after them.

This paedophilia debate is quite farcical really. Most children in the UK are probably at greater risk from being knocked down by Ice Cream vans than they are of being subjected to a paedophile !

What about protecting the children? Isn't that the priority?

So when does a foetus become a child then?

Using similar views to yours you must be a mass murderer due to your status as a wanker.

Re:Children's rights 17 Years, 10 Months ago
The priority should be to get the facts right and use common sense. Very few children are abducted by strangers. During the past 20 years no child has been abducted from school by a stranger. The majority of abductions are carried out by family members (e.g. during custody battles) or by someone known to the child. Thus, the current rantings of the Home Secretary about moving "paedophiles" from hostels near schools is nothing more than headlining. In fact, it has now been revealed that since being moved they are under less strict supervision, so the measure has backfired already. Not much advancement in child protection there.

Creating an atmosphere of paranoia and fear does nothing to keep children safe. Diminishing human rights and replacing rule of law with rule of the mob makes the world less secure. We need to protect our children's future as well as their present, otherwise once they are grown they may fall foul of the very measures which were introduced to protect them.

Knee jerk laws based on tabloid propoganda are more of a threat to children than paedophiles.

More children suffer at the hands of drug dealers than sex offenders, but their threat is played down in favour of juicier headlines. The word sex always grabs more attention, and it sells more papers.

The current Sarah's Law campaign has nothing to do with protecting children. It's all about money and votes.

Clinical Psychologist's point of view 17 Years, 10 Months ago
I've seen dozens of adults who were abused as children and everyone was abused by either a family member or more often a friend of the family or someone known to the family.None of them were snatched from the street by a stranger.

The main "danger" is from the paedophile who will usually target a single mother and befriend her to get access to the child/children.Some will operate as a partner of the mother or just a good friend.

Parents need to be aware and alert at all times without being paranoid.Only a tiny minority of lonely people who befriend them and/or their children is going to commit abuse.

One lad I saw was systematically abused by his mother's best friend's adult son for several years. His father had long gone from the scene. He was constantly entrusted to the abuser while his mother enjoyed her social life.

My father died when I was 11 and an "uncle" from our community spent hours with my brother and myself, played with us, took us out to the coast and loved us like his own. He never touched us inappropriately.
He took us swimming every saturday. If you told this to someone now, they'd shout "paedophile".

Two similar scenarios eh?

I really wish l could have put it that well.

I was just thinking last night about Sarah's Law. It was the NOW (News of the World) that named and shamed those people in 2000 some of whom were not even convicted. The Lynch mobs started on these people, and eventually the NOW were told to stop printing names. Funny how now they say we don't want to print all the names just the dangerous ones, well if that is the case why did they expose all those people in 2000?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, now according to the News of the screws, this didn't happen, all that occurred was someone put some writing on the ladies door, while she was out, that's all it was.
She incurred no threat's, and her house was fine!! Although the fire brigade have a different version, but hey who would believe them when the news of the screws speaks!
If you believe that nothing happened to her, or her house you believe anything. But one thing did happened, she did stop working as a paediatrician, and moved from the area!! Yes well done News of the World, for that bit of excellent journalism, and special award for Rebekah Wade. You can be rest assured there will be news like this every week in EXCLUSIVE REPORTS
