we've just acquired a 1962 scopitone player. It plays 16 mm reels and so far I've managed to get 30 or so short music video clips.

These really were the first jukeboxes with vision!

Read all about them here.

According to archives there is a film clip of "It's good news week". You remember anything about that JK ?

Soundies 17 Years, 9 Months ago
sorry, for being an anorak ...

but the "first jukeboxes with vision" were the panoram-machines from the Mills Novelty Company & Globe-Mills Productions in 1940. (and NO, i'm not old enough to remember).

there were a lot of "soundies" from mainstream-artists but also from black greats like Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and Louis Jordan.

Only problem with the panorma-machines was, there were about 10 soundies on a reel, so you couln't choose a clip but had to watch them in sequence.

there were even some commercials on the reels ... 40 years before MTV.

Scopitones:

There were (are?) some websites where you can watch/download lots of brilliant clips from the 60s.
