Big Brother has totally escaped my radar... am I alone? 17 Years, 8 Months ago
Never been intrigued, not interested, didn't watch it when it started, don't watch it now, don't read about it, nothing against it just not bothered.

No you're not alone, I think the bubble is bursting with reality tv. They are just a bunch of attention seeking wannabees, hoping to launch their careers as z-list celebrities. I don't see the point of it anymore, the first year it was an interesting experiment, now thats all been done and it's just about shocking people. I don't care who wins and Davina is so false, putting on her fake excitement and Dermot is much better than this dross.

Hear hear JK - from the glimpses ive seen its full of freak wannabe characters falsely parading themselves in the hope of something big.

Never seen it, JK - but X Factor starts tomorrow ! 17 Years, 8 Months ago
BB has also missed me completely (fortunately). Have seen the odd snippet on the news etc, but nothing else, and never even bother to read the stories in the fodder-press.

All these reality shows are the cause of ITV's downfall - and the recent resignation of their CEO - apparently "Love Island" viewing figures reach double digits on a good night !

On the "up" (ahem) side, X Factor returns tomorrow night to "save" ITV ! No matter what you post on here - you know you'll all be watching it !

(Just to remind you all .... last year's winner was Shane Ward, whose career lasted from (late) Dec 2005 till March 2006).

Yes I will watch it without shame but may well only dip in and out... 17 Years, 8 Months ago
Loved it when it started but rapidly lost interest.
I'm now watching for the second time the wonderful finale of the glorious Bleak House.
Somehow I feel enriched by it.
And I don't think BB would have quite the same effect.

BB is the one programme that typifies everything that is wrong with television/Britain/the world today.

The fact that 'millions' of people seem to like it is entirely beside the point - give people mind-numbing, undemanding, cheaply made garbage and they will lap it up. However, I believe broadcasters, in both the public AND private sectors have a responsibility to the public to make programmes that will seek to ELEVATE, not degrade, its taste.

Thumb through the pages of a Radio Times from thirty years ago, when every week contained a good variety of dramas (including single, self-standing dramas), classic plays, situation comedies, documentaries and good childrens' programmes. Then try looking at the current schedules to see just how far we've regressed.

It really is sickening.

If you check back through earlier posts, you should find that I predicted the winner from day one of the series. I now predict his hit single, which I believe will be out in a month. If anyone wants to take me up on that bet, I promise to donate all the cash to charity.

I gather the one with Tourettes won... 17 Years, 8 Months ago
not sure I'm keen on CH4 morality at present.
It is inching very close to total irresponsibility.
Ditto X Factor.
We're one inch away from a shattered, disappointed, confused television person, utilised for ratings without thought or care for consequences, kills his or herself...
Death By Television.
Now there's an idea for a TV series.
Anyone got any lions or Christians left?

Whilst in the bath, I had an idea...uh oh..... 17 Years, 8 Months ago
...the ultimate disgraceful reality TV show entitled "Shall I get My Coat?"
The contestants are asked to perform the usual fodder, and the TV audience are not allowed to applaud, until after a ten second gap after the performance, which is ended by the contestant asking the question.."Shall I get my coat?
Assuming the audience do not like the performance, the performer walks off in silence, takes the coat from the studio hand and walks off.
As the public seem to want to be ridiculed, without being thrown to the lions, this is far more pc.
The exploitation of tourettes syndrome on C4 has been well lectured on, and will continue to be for years. If C4 think they are doing their bit for the disabled, then it is about time they allow wheel chaired persons into the house, and make it properly available to all.

Never mind there is hope, for example the current documentary series on bbc 2 showing tonight at 9pm "The history of light entertainment", tonight focussing on pop music. So far it has been a brilliant series, do yourselves a favour give x factor a miss and tune in to this interesting and nostalgic documentary series.

BB and the worst thing on TV 17 Years, 8 Months ago
BB reached its peak with Victor, the "Jungle Cats" and the others I've forgotten about. Its lost all its novelty and the auditions (I went last year) was full of people desperately trying to be wacky/zany.

However, given a choice of BB for the rest of my life or ITVs "The Mint", I would go with BB. Or a quick death.

If I was forced into BB, I would see it as my duty as a prisoner of war to escape. Hopefully in this daring escape, I would get enough publicity to finally achieve my "hit"!
