A total non story about Ian Brady... stupid "holiday" stories... the insanity of the Assange situation... it's not just silly season; both content and delivery have become appalling. Leaves on the line soon?

The cynic in me says that the press were counting on Winnie Johnson dying so that they could make the most of this non-story. I have to admit that I'm totally unmoved by it because I wasn't even thought of when the moors murders were first in the headlines. Ian Brady is just a name from history to me.

It's really impossible to make comparisons or know what goes on in the mind of a mother whose child has been murdered....or blame them for actions and words..but there is a contrast with poor old Winnie Johnson who maintained an extraordinary dignity and only ever wished to be able to bury her son.

James Bulger's mother has retained and spoken with an extraordinary hatred..breathing fire and brimstone..she's perfectly entitled to..but what good does it do her?.
And it probably was in part responsible for the recent suicide of the man incorrectly identified as Bulger's murderer..she continues to whip up hatred aided by gutter tabloids and creates an atmosphere...actions and words can have consequences and sometimes very bad ones.

I know one woman whose daughter was murdered over 50 years ago in an unsolved case. She has never spoken to the media nor ever would. She holds no hate for the killer but gets overwhelmed with extraordinary sadness. She reckons her husband couldn't or wouldn't avoid hate and thinks it killed him.

Sad to hear of Mrs Bennett's mum passing. It's a travesty that Brady outlived her and she'll never give her son the burial he deserved. Non story? Not if you're a parent.

PH I suspect you're right; Ch4 anticipated her death and ran the non story in order to give their horrid little programme publicity. Leveson looked at all the wrong angles. You seem to think Keith was a married lady Angel? At least you didn't call him Kevin, like the BBC News woman did. TV packed with nonentities making comment. Ch4 must be delighted.

A silly woman on LBC earlier kept on referring to Brady 'as a monster and not a human being'. What a chuffing Sunesque/Daily Mailesque thing to say.

Brady, like Hitler, the Hungerford killer, Thompson and Venables, Tony Blair, they are all human beings. To categorize them as 'monsters' means you don't have to sit down and try and understand just why the hell they did the things they did. The very human things they did.

Brady is a complete nut,expect no normality there....but the press are pure gutter,tap up Milly's phone,while faining indignity at the actions of others.....but it's a 'good story' as a certain JK would say.

The non-news is, I feel, a deliberate attempt to muffle the seriousness of the Assange situation which is completely scandalous when viewed in proper context. I'm not a religious man by any stretch of the imagination (though I am spiritual) and Assange is far from likeable, but this hunting-down-of-the-truth-teller smacks of a modern day Crucifixion - and as the UK's position in this is as a "Judas" there is no surprise the news organisations and media are having serious "angle" issues,

Thursdays 3 leading national news stories were enough for me to believe the Rule Of Law - as a vehicle for "justice" - is now completely dead. We have the USA blatantly getting the UK and Sweden to subvert their laws in order to hunt down one Prophet of Truth - and nobody in the mainstream media or our political sphere addressing the actual morality or legality of this or what was exposed in those leaks.
Add to this the man refused the 'Right To Die' with the courts using "The Law" as some kind of immoveable scripture dicatating morality when we 'put down' animals with broken bones in the guise of it being "humane" and the circus surrounding the "rights" of Ian Brady - and I'm concluding that my law degree isn't fit to wipe my arse with.

I'm also beginning to think that this c(o)untry is becoming an awful place to live. I have no desire to become an American Citizen by proxy, and I'd like to be able to have a smidgen of respect and belief in the land I'm expected to bring children into. That scenario is fast becoming untenable.

The USA is currently behaving as if the NWO has been decalared official and that they are the "official police" of this new world. If any other country behaved in this way we would not only be dealing with them by force but calling for a modern Hiroshima to be delivered on Washington.

steveimp I think you will find Brady and the others you mentioned are all card carry sociopaths (psychopaths)

People confuse them for mass murderers although some obviously are but there are more in society than we imagine at all levels, some running countries, some the corner shop.

i would not wish one on my worst enemy having seen the destruction they cause.

the main identifying feature is a lack of empathy ..ie : they have no concept of harm or hurt They cause, they don't even know what the emotion empathy is.

They become very good at mimicking emotions and thus can form relationships but it's a sham.

they are never diagnosed as they don;t generally come into contact with mental health workers but they have the worst of all mental disorders and it's why shrinks will say 'run don't walk' when you discover one.

oh I'm sure has been (do you what they actually call it ?) but most sociopaths go undiagnosed-like Hitler, a classic but extreme example.

I cannot remember which newspaper (probably Mail as I read a lot of trash) but one had an interview with a shrink whio spent time with Brady and he described a classic pyschopath still playing games with that poor old lady. That's the other clue: they have no concept of consequences and an immediate victory is what they will always go for...like keeping some poor old mother in suspense. But in Brady;s mind he wouldn't actually know the woman was hurting..just he winning the game.!!
