An excellent article that raises many important issues.

Where does this 1984-esque rewriting of history end? If Phil Spector goes down for murder, will we be deprived forever of all the wonderful music he produced? And if so, why have we been allowed to listen to a murderer like Leadbelly for so many years.

If Michael Jackson had been convicted of paedophilia, would all of his music been banned? I think not, because he is American, but here in the UK we reserve our most vicious treatment for our own. We are still listening to Jerry Lee Lewis after all these years, after all.

And why is it only certain crimes that are bannable? Sid Vicious allegedly murdered his girlfriend, but I regularly see his rendition of My Way on the tv. Some crimes are cooler than others, regardless of the effect on the victim. This kind of muddle-headed liberal thinking reminds me of the &quot;good AIDS/bad AIDS&quot; satire in one of Chris Morris's programmes.

And last of all, in their attempt to &quot;punish&quot; Glitter, they are also punishing his co-writers and the musicians that played on his records, people who are probably relying on the deserved income from those hits.

Interesting article. The Radio stations are acting as censors. I don't agree with that. We can be our own censors.

It is right that people shouldn't profit from their crimes .. but if the crime is completely unrelated to the source of profit then the Radio station has no right to deprive the artist by refusing to play their tracks.
