On Ken Bruce at this moment, reminds me of the 60s when Harris begged me to write a song for him. I refused, not wanting to be bothered by singing actors. He went on and on - a real pest (later I got to know his sons and his wife is now married to Jonathan Aitken, a fellow ex jailbird). And I went on refusing. Eventually he gave up on me and moved to Jimmy Webb. MacArthur Park is the result. Webb also went on to write a Moon song (Everybody Gets to Go to the Moon - not as good as my lunar masterpiece).

Macarthur Park is a bizarre song. The lyrics and vocals are highly amusing.

Jimmy Webb claims that everything in that song came from things he actually saw in MacArthur Park in LA when he was getting over breaking up with his then girlfriend, including a birthday cake which had been left when a sudden downpour had caused an outdoor birthday party to be abandoned.
