Before my time (I've attended every Ivors since 1994) In fact, I think I invited you one year! There is one puzzle. Ivors are awarded for song writing, yet your version was a cover. That doesn't mean you weren't there to collect it at some time on behalf of the writer. Odder things happen!

Queen had awards in 1975 and 1976 according to the Wiki list. It couldn't have been bigger than Killer Queen or Bohemian Rhapsody, so the mystery deepens.
Or maybe Queen's awards were for something else? Some of the categories are a bit creative, like "most recorded" .
Yes I found it odd at the time - even odder was Joe Loss refusing to give it to me when I got back; took me ages to persuade him (he said he was going to keep it with the plaque turned to the wall!). I did eventually get it; it was stolen when my house was burgled later. I suspect it was for Biggest Selling Song or something - (remember there were two versions; mine reached 4 George Baker's reached 9).

Don't bother with wiki. I posted a link to the Ivor archive above!

I am not convinced it is accurate. Why would The Wombling Song, released in 1973, get an award two years later?

You think the official archive is less accurate than wikipedia???

Nothing is less accurate than Wikipedia. But wiki being a lousy source of information doesn't make everything else accurate.
If Mr King remembers the award, I am sure there must be an explanation for it. It is not the sort of thing you can get confused about if the award is on your mantelpiece.
I mention Queen because it is around the same time, and perhaps one of them (probably Brian May) can remember the other awards.

I too wouldn't doubt JK, but I still think it's bizarre to react to the absence of an Ivor Novello award listing in the official Ivor Novello archive by concluding that the Ivor Novello organisation be less reliable than Wikipedia on the subject of Ivor Novellos! Wiki fails to give any source, other than anecdotal, for its own(en passant) reference, and JK's appearance on ITS list of Ivor Novello winners is BLANK, which hardly shows great research!
There is an anomaly on the official Novello Award website. According to the ' Our History' article, by 1976 the ceremony had moved to the Grosvenor House Hotel. However according to the 1976 archive page that year's ceremony was held at The Dorchester. The cover of the programme has it at The Dorchester.
