Top Of The Pops re-runs 7 Years, 4 Months ago
The Top Of The Pops re-runs are now covering the autumn 1982 period, and this weekend should mean the showing of this addition. I wonder if the BBC will broadcast it:

30-9-82: Presenter: The Radio 1 D.J.’s (Live) (Radio 1 15th Anniversary Edition)

(26) DEXY’S MIDNIGHT RUNNERS – Jackie Wilson Said (I’m In Heaven When You Smile) WATCH
(29) ULTRAVOX – Reap The Wild Wind (video)
(31) IMAGINATION – In The Heat Of The Night WATCH
(9) ADAM ANT – Friend Or Foe (D.J.’s dancing)
(30) THE PINKEES – Danger Games WATCH
(27) ROXY MUSIC – Take A Chance With Me (danced to by Zoo)
(14) MARI WILSON – Just What I Always Wanted
(1) MUSICAL YOUTH – Pass The Dutchie (video)
(25) UB40 – So Here I Am (crowd dancing) (and credits)
>> The Radio 1 D.J.’s appearing on this show were David Jensen,
John Peel, Tony Blackburn, Andy Peebles, Dave Lee Travis, Jonathan King,
Jimmy Savile, Richard Skinner, Peter Powell, Paul Burnett, Paul Gambaccini,
Mike Read, Steve Wright, Anne Nightingale, Tommy Vance, Alexis Korner,
Adrian Juste, Adrian John, Simon Bates and Mike Smith.

I can think of several reasons why this episode will not be shown, all of which are Basically Bollocks from the Basically Bollocks Corporation.

Looking at the list of artists appearing on the show, reminded me of the scandal around the Pinkees Danger Games single. No retailers were selling it, (even HMV Oxford Street admitted at the time they hadn't sold any copies), and there didn't appear to be much "retail level promotion" going on. It turned out the record company didn't need to, as "someone" had by-passed the normal route of getting records into the charts and had got an insider working on the diaries at the chart compilers, (who were less than a month away from losing the contract!).

Don't blame the beeb, no channel would show this at this time. I think they should personally but they are too concerned about complaints.

I don't recall that single, but I do remember a somewhat similar controversy over the album cover for Bow Wow Wow's album in the early 80s because it featured the band's then 14 year old lead singer Annabella Lwin nude on the cover.

There was even a controversy over the cover of U2's first album in the US in 1980, because it showed a photo of the face and shoulders of a kid (who happened to be a younger brother of a friend of the band's) - the album cover was essentially censored in the US, and the band had to issue a different cover for the US sales of the album.

I appear to be wearing the drummer boy tunic which, many years before, I bought in Portobello Road and which inspired John Lennon to go for the Sgt Pepper look - it's a genuine antique (I still have it) and has the name tag Viscount Windsor who was, I suspect, once royal.

This is a great clip, such a shame that they can't show it, and believe you me if it was itv or channel 4 it would be the same story. I don't see channel 5 showing too many Animal Hospital repeats. The youtube clip is very poor quality. Good to see Annie Nightingale on there, I don't think she ever presented top of the pops, so good to see her at least appear on it. 2 convicted sex offenders in attendance and 1 falsely accused and 1 with multiple accusers (Saville), but nothing ever proven. They should just show it, and those that don't want to want a specialist channel (bbc 4), don't tune in.

A real shame. Though I don't agree with the censorship that prevents DLT and JS shows being re-screened. Is there not a way of showing the content, but removing the DJ's links. (And use sub-titles TOPT2 style)?

They could do that, but it would lose some value. They shouldn't have to do that, if people don't want to watch a show because one of the presenters has been accused of a crime, then they could switch off. The recent Louis Theroux documentary "Saville" was no. 1 on the iplayer list. Is it just because they don't want to show these people in the guise of entertainment
