TOPIC: Jean by Oliver on SOTS
#158419
Jean by Oliver on SOTS 7 Years, 2 Months ago
Written by Rod McKuen; I used to get very nice fan mail from him; he was a very successful poet. This US smash was produced by the mighty Bob Crewe and I have several stories I cannot repeat as some of the protagonists are still with us. Not sadly Rod who died a year or so ago.

And nice to hear the mighty Bo Diddley again; a real impact force on music. I interviewed him once for Entertainment USA.

James Last did a wonderful instrumental version of Jean, a masterclass in arranging.

One of the things lacking with much today's music is variation of texture and tone, as they aren't exposed to the huge variety of types of music the 'Rock Generations' were, and 'light music' in particular has gone completely AWOL - yet was ever-present when the really creative musicians were seemingly everywhere we turned.
