Just played on R2; bringing happy memories of first being played this in the office of my dear old friend (and ex lawyer) Charles Levison who was MD at Warners at the time and had just had several early samples of this strange new artiste Prince. On hearing this I shot out of my chair and said "best thing I've heard in years".
I remember Rob Dickins raving about this, but Warners struggled. It came of the 1999 Album, which Warners UK (WEA Records at the time) decided to release as a single album in order to make it more accessible/affordable. Both 1999 and Little Red Corvette were hits eventually. And then came Purple Rain and Prince's super-star status was established. Wonderful days.
Rather tactfully you may have correctly nudged my fading brain cells in the right direction; Charles was other artistes; I think it was indeed Rob who Princed me.
