TOPIC: MacArthur Park on SOTS

MacArthur Park on SOTS 1 Month ago Karma: 49
I was Richard Harris' choice to write him a hit (he pestered me day in, day out; adored Moon). I kept refusing so he finally went to Jimmy Webb (who once nicked my Moon idea for a song of his own).

There's this actor who's been in a few TV series - including Mad Men - with a very distinctive, quite reedy voice, and it was only about a year ago that I discovered he was Richard's son. Jared Harris. Once you know it, the connection with his father is the voice.

Oh yes I knew the sons slightly way back then - and after Richard's death, Jonathan Aitken, another prison person, married his widow Elisabeth. Jonathan and I have attended several meetings.

Didn't she also marry Rex Harrison? I think she once said of him, 'He's the only man I know who sends the wine back when he dines at home'.

There are some pretty horrific versions of the "rip off" but I rather like this one by Jackie Trent.

Yes I agree. I quite like the song actually; nothing like mine at all apart from the title. Hopefully he doesn't get any of my royalties!
