Challenge Eurovision. 5 Years, 3 Months ago
The People's Choice is We're Leaving But We Don't Want To; five girls go to a party; two see cute boys and want to stay and party all night long but they are outvoted by the Leavers - three to two. If this song by BlueAngels is selected as the UK entry for Eurovision 2019, we shall win. It is catchy. It illustrates both sides. It will get the sympathy vote from Europe. So please help spread the word and demand that the BBC puts it to the Voters on February 8th. What can you do? I think the solution is Tik Tok. 15 second videos; made by you; put up in seconds. Whether it's you singing a chorus (ending with manic Party! Party! Party! Party!) or a video of your dogs or cats leaving and returning. Watch Tik Tok and Adele's Gummy Bears for inspiration. Like Baby Shark, this can be EEN-OR-MUS!!! Make a video; get your friends and family to make videos. Post it; spread the word; get every Eurovision fan in the world to join us and do their versions (even in China where they don't know Eurovision).

The three songs selected by the BBC are absolutely awful; hopeless flops, not a hope, and singers all X Factor rejects. For God's sake BBC - give the UK at least a chance with this...

No doubt it is because it's terrible. Funny get gave us Genesis but nothing good prior of after. 10cc were just okay for me. I'm not even going to go there with BCR.

I looked at the UK Records box set - talk about forgettable stuff.

There are a surprisingly high number of good things about this song but it lacks any verses to tell a story. The chorus is great, superb title for a 2019 UK Eurovision song, good production values but why didn’t someone spend an extra day and write a couple of verses telling a story. No matter how catchy a chorus is you always need something to offset it but here it’s all sugar, sugar sugar. Shame as it was so close.

It's great, a thousand times better than the bland offerings by the BBC selection, although it does bear a striking resemblance to 'Do You Love Me' by the Contours.

Back in the 1990's I approached the new Head of Entertainment at the BBC David Liddiment and told him I'd like to try to save Top of the Pops which was dying. He couldn't let me do that (someone else had been contracted) but asked me to try to find a UK Eurovision winner. I started by getting young fans and soul fans with Love City Groove - it was championed by Kiss-FM and made the top ten but only reached #10 in Eurovision. The next year I found what I thought was the best Eurovision song and track ever - Ooh Aah Just A Little Bit. But it only got to 8, so I quit. The new Head of Entertainment, my friend Mike Leggo, had been a researcher on my TV series Entertainment USA - he begged me to give it one last try; Katrina won with Love Shine A Light (I realised we needed a performer as well as a good song). So I collected my (massive) bonus and stayed on (next year we hosted and came second with Imaani).

I think I'd still be doing it if events hadn't brought me into contact with Surrey Police. And we'd have won a few times.

Here's one I put together earlier. As it's Brexit year I thought I'd go for the sympathy vote. Which of the three finalists do you prefer (it's Michael for me) - or do you prefer THIS?

As it happens an ordinary song got a fantastic performance by Michael Rice and could even win Eurovision.
