Would have been to save and help survive Top of the Pops. As (then) Global Chairman of EMI (had Surrey Police not intervened) I would have had the power and position to insist the BBC continued TOTP in a Prime Time BBC1 slot - in return for cleaning up the validity of the charts so they reflected genuine popularity, not big corporate hype. I knew all about Chart Hype as I started it in the 1970s with my label UK Records. A brilliant way to promote hits without spending too much money. But I made sure my hyped tracks were potentially real hits; if I hadn't seen the signs of true commerciality, I wouldn't waste cash and effort. Sadly the majors saw the tricks without seeing the reservation (why should they? They had millions to back dodgy signings). So the charts became meaningless (as they are now). RESULT - ratings for TOTP dropped radically (viewers didn't want to watch corporate crap).

Hundreds of spam messages placed and removed but interesting - no comments on this since I put it up on Christmas Eve; so sad that the Music Industry has become simply that - an Industry, no longer attracting people who love music.
