Adam Ant 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago
My partner and I were interested in going but were warned by a customer in the booking office who booked for something else, that Adam Ant normally cancels or postpones at the last minute in both USA and UK.

It seems that the kind stranger was bang on the money and probably spoke from experience.

Again it's ok if you are local. if you have things booked like hotels you might not be able to get a refund.

How quaint, actually going to a booking office in person to book a concert. People can't help getting colds, but would it be enough to cancel doing a concert, the venue must lose thousands. There aren't many bands that I would book a hotel to see a concert for, although I did see Spandau Ballet in 2015 in Liverpool, I did make a weekend of it. I live within travelling distance of London and the trains go on till about 23.45, so there isn't much need for it.

I hate booking online, I rather be handed a ticket in person and sometimes I do browse the venue brochure with a coffee and book for other shows I didn't know about. I don't live near a train station Robbie thanks to Dr Beeching.

I do travel to Bournemouth a lot for work, if we did see Adam Ant or any concert in Bournemouth I would drive of course.

I do know for a fact that many of the hotels are used by concertgoers there is the BIC and Pavillon and the shit hole in Boscombe.

I hate driving to and from gigs these days especially long distances, I didn't mind it in my younger days, there is always some twat that likes to start something in the car park.

There are plenty of bands I would book a hotel for if they came to the UK but there are not many who do now.

A comment from an Essex paper, who mentioned the postponement of an Adam Ant gig.

Just because you wouldn't travel long distances or book hotels, Robbie, many people still do—even though it's a gamble.

[quote]One and a half hours is not enough for notification of cancellation! I had over an hours drive so I arrived early around 5.30, having paid the toll (from Kent) and car park charges, only to get a notification on my phone at 6pm! Some people I spoke to had come from Germany and Barcelona, and others had hotels booked. Not good enough... and for what... man flu?[quote] I did Hugh Cornwell live with flu and a bit croaky and he was wrapped up but he still gave it his all. Tickets were cheap though £20, I think the merchandise was more expensive than a single ticket.

I have no idea how The Human League can justify £106.45, including fees, for tickets be supported by Sophie Ellis-Bextor and T'pau. I saw T'Pau (Carol Decker who is T'Pau) as a support act. She was very good, but she was only on stage for about 15 -20 minutes. She rushed through the hits and did a bit of chit-chat, but nothing amazing.

How many times is she going to mention how she came up with the lyrics for China In Your Hand, Carol has told the story in every TV interview/radio interview and gossip column in the press and magazines.

Adam Ant is 70 next weekend.

I cannot comprehend this, a 27 year old pin up as recent as 1981 now turns SEVENTY. Where did it all go so fast? I have all his singles and the old posters from my bedroom wall and now he's older than three of my grandparents when they passed away.

As recent as 1981, that's 43 years go. 43 years before 1981 was the pre-second world war

They might get a refund but they won't get the booking fee back. A nice little earner for nothing.

Some booking fees are anything from £1 or £2 to £5 or so, what are you paying the booking agent wages or big tech? Some venues don't tell you about fees when you pay, then they tell you.

So Adam Ant is 70 today. He was meant to be doing a show tonight in Manchester as part of his Antmusic tour but has cancelled the whole tour due to ill health, an inflamed throat being mentioned.

I get the point you made Robbie, and 1981 seems quite clear and not so far in my mind too, but what's interesting given what you said is that many of us in 2024 like listening to music from that year and earlier which still feels relatively contemporary even after 43 years, but if you went back to 1981 not many people other than our grandparents were likely listening to the scratchy old pre-pop era music of 1938 were they. The 43 years from 1938 unti 1981 seem like an emormous difference compared to the time between 1981 and 2024 even though it is actually the same length of time.

I started secondary school the month Prince Charming hit No1 that year. One of my first and enduring memories of starting that school was how they had a Friday lunchtime school disco and on my second day there, having begun on the Thursday, I walked in through the gates at lunchtime after going out home and coming back to Adam & The Ants literally blowing the school hall roof off it was so loud I could even hear the music before arriving ar the school gate. I couldn't believe my new school was so cool and allowed that kind of thing.
