TOPIC: Watching The Brits 2025
#255806
Watching The Brits 2025 2 Weeks, 4 Days ago
I realise I haven't heard a single one of the Best Song nominees (even The Beatles) so I've just checked out GUESS - the winner by Charli and Billi....
It is just as well at 80 I'm no longer in the music industry. No melody; one dimensional lyrics; no mass appeal at all yet billions of streams and virtually no cost.

The bimbo girls who gave an award called him STORMY as in Trump. Doh! He just went on about Jesus. Listened to the best international hit by Chappell Roan? Awful. The equivalent of a lost album track from the 60s.

I agree JK, the UK scene is a mess, the USA is just behind.

I do think getting into the music biz is too easy these days, no need to knock on doors are send countless demos; just put a file or video on online and just wait.

I am not a fan whatsoever of the Arctic Monkeys (I don't like Indie - most of their songs are too similar) but they self-promoted and posted a lot on Myspace while touring the club circuit. They had to put the effort in before they were signed.

All the female singers are like pin ups, the bands seem to be from the same camp or just corporate posers. Alternative/Rock Act limits those who are too heavy to the media. Then again most of the metal and rock bands prefer to remain in the underground scene in fear of being sellouts and being too popular.

Is it just that us Oldies don't like this new music (rap not singing; words and rhyhm not melodies) like our parents generation bemoaned no more CROONERS? Catchy tunes no longer matter and have been replaced by slick packaging.

I was never in to rap or hip-hop. However so many rappers have the same image, haircuts, style and poses. It's like the many rock stars too many are posers and have wimpy fanboys as followers.

I do think fan clubs need to make a come back rather than mailing lists via email and social media platforms. Fan clubs were more personal.

I used to hang on every award at this event and want to know who won what. The last one I watched was in 2008. Nowadays I not only couldn't care less but I don't even have any desire to find out. I wish I did. I would like it to still interest me. Many of the winners used to be REAL stars who anyone in the street would immediately recognise whatever age they were, now most of these would pass by unnoticed by the vast majority of us all.

Has melody become a dirty word in music for some reason?

The whole industry has become so narrow minded, unimaginitive and dare I shout it, DULL! DULL! DULL! like a boring wallpaper that's kind of just there.
