BRITS... I've decided to reject 5 kind offers to attend tonight... 18 Years, 2 Months ago
I couldn't see any positives; only negatives emerging.
Remember... I named The Brits (in 1987 when I presented and wrote the show). Before that it was called The British Pop And Rock Awards which I found rather less catchy. Not many people know this but BRITS stands for British Record Industry Trusts Show.
After the fiasco that was 1989 (Mick Fleetwood and Sam Fox) they begged me to take over so I revived it and produced it in 1990, 1991 and 1992 but resigned after 3 years when the majors tried once again to take the reins from my hands and grab the event back.
I still wish they would put together a show which...
a) was great television (Awards shows rarely are)
b) sold loads more British music around the world (we did in my era)
c) alerted British fans to unusual good music (we featured some unsigned bands - CARTER USM got signed thanks to their Brit appearance)
d) entertained (I got Maggie Thatcher crooning How Much Is That Doggy In The Window at one Brits - you could have heard a pin drop)

I expect tonight's show will be spectacular, competent, dull and very, very unoriginal.

"And the winner is..."

PERLEEEZE!

Name names JK... who's been brave enough to invite you? 18 Years, 2 Months ago
I'm with you - wiser not to go but you SHOULD have been invited by the BPI... or have they forgotten you?

As can be read on the other message board, I think you should go actually.
The media bullying will stop at some point although I do realise it could be very painful for you, but it may not be at all. Who can say?

The rent-a-crowd. Ghastly

The high and mighty sneering from the best seats in the house. At the grammys/oscars everyone is in it together.

The staging. so low budget. dated. Check out Kanye West and Jamie Foxx at the Grammys or Eminiem at the MTV's. Spend money and reap what you sow

The delay. everyone knows the winners a day in advance.

Chris Fucking Evans. Do you weant to be current or what? broaden your horizens. Simon Anstell,Peter Kaye, Vernon Kaye,Dermott O'leary, Russell Brand, Jimmy Carr, Ricky Gervaise,Bill Bailey, anyone, anyone but Chris fucking Evans

I think JK realises how his presence could (due to current media obsessions) take attention away from the main theme of the event.

I look forward to the day when JK has won his appeal and can walk into such events to appreciative applause. Hopefully that will be soon.

They should start the show at 10pm and show it live on TV. The late start will allow enough drink to be consumed and the live TV feed will prevent having to watch somehting that you have been reading about all day.

JK, you should have gone because unless you step out into the light the 'vile pervert' tag will fester in the darkness. You have said yourself that your friends still support you so bollocks to anyone else and their assumptions.

I agree with Martin - you should go tonight. Get yourself back in the press in a positive way. Let them all know that you're life hasn't stopped just because the tabloids make stories up about you. Give them all a big V sign and hang your head up high! We've only got 1 life!

Thank you all for your positive comments... 18 Years, 2 Months ago
However I still feel the negative coverage (guaranteed) will be to the detriment of the event... and by next year I suspect I'll have two or three acts on the bill (this year my successes have been more informal and unofficial though I do urge you all to enjoy Madonna and Nizlopi).
So I'll leave it to my many spies to gather all the gossip (and if you want to join the King's Army, just let me know via KingOfHits@aol.com).

Would be great to see you at the awards JK , even better to see you presenting an award! , instead of some of the Z list celebs who will probably be there presenting.
