And the Sweden entry is well crafted and perfectly performed but just too manufactured for me. Sort of Mark Ronson but not quite; featuring Bruno Mars but not quite. Probably another big summer hit though; this year's Eurovision is packed with summer hits.
And the last of my Real Hit picks - Bulgaria with a Russian Bieber who has the cutest smile; yet another smash for the summer; for the first time ever I reckon Eurovision 2017 will provide a dozen of the big summer hits this year.
I've only just got in to catch the end of the voting. I find the flashing up of all the scores in one go completely wrong, it removes all the tension, much preferred it when they were announced individually.
I was wrong to make such an assumption that Portugal had won, although eventually they did. I didn't realise that there was going to be a massive vote hikes at the end, I guess it keeps everyone in the game right till the end.
Great year for Portugal European football champions last summer for the first time ever, now Eurovision champions for the first time
I was delighted that all seven picks made the top 7 - only the UK failed (a grower not an instant and I think a mistake not using the 7th Heaven mix in the contest).
"Amar Pelos Dois" by Portugal certainly hit the spot in about 10 seconds for me. I think it's the best Euro winner of all time. It was nice to hear such a melodic sentimental song, done in the style of the great American classics a la Cole Porter, Bernstein, etc. It was a breath of fresh air contrasted with the generic Euro electro dance pop drivel that blights the contest...
I agree with you on Portugal but disagree about music in general; some years Eurovision is dire without a decent song or hit in the contest. Other times (this year) there are several. Loreen's winner a few years ago was a terrific dance track. It varies and one type of music is no "better" than any other.
