This successful and ubiquitous formula for running businesses - would be viewed by ITK as too close (or familiar) to Socialism...

You're missing the point. Public services aren't there to make a profit, they are there to serve the public and provide a good service.

No - YOU are missing the point !

Its not up to Governments to "provide" things ... if there is a need - then a service will provide it (and the users should pay for it).

Are we to have Nationalised Butchers next ???

Take a look at Leisure Centres - almost all run by Councils (at a loss).

Nationalised butchers, fruit, and basic supplies shops is a great idea. Steering people towards cheap and healthy food will save money in the long run because they will need less health care.
better to provide cauliflowers than mobility scooters.

So our food and basic supplies should be subsidised (or paid for) by the government.

Anything else?

If education, welfare,NHS and benefits are provided, why not subsidise healthy food? The principal of support has already been established.

They wouldn't stop (or shop), honey! - they would walk past and go straight to the chip shop (3 times a day) or to McDs.

(btw - see "I'm too fat to get out of my house" on TV tonight C4 at 9pm !!)

It there anything that you think should not be subsidised by government?

A lot would, yes, but i think it would encourage some to make healthy meals. I am not sure if they still do it, but they used to give an abundance of free milk to families with young children, and some of the poorer families I knew got pretty creative with milk based meals. Ok,it might well have been so that they had more money for fags and booze, but the children benefited from it.

Oh yes. I think if people want to put their children into nurseries they should pay for it themselves instead of expecting me to. Peruvian pop stars can bugger off too!

They are paid to have these kids - with all the handouts they get - then want to keep the cash and dump the kids on someone else !

Only in a totally Loony society .....

Did you watch it? It was the same woman who barely five minutes ago was doing chat shows and documentaries about how wonderful it was to be fat and how she encouraged her step daughter to be fat too.
