Of course there will be a delay until your first payment - job starters have to work for a MONTH before getting their first salary - but these scroungers expect to be paid FIRST !

When I was enrolled on UC I was told of all the pros and cons about it, even waiting 6 weeks for first payment.

I was told I could get the loan, but I said I have got some some money and I can make basic meals.

When I got my firet UC payment they didn't pay the housing element, but a quick phone call and a few letters later they paid it in a week.

Yes I had to explain to my landlord and show him proof he was relaxed about it and yes I paid him for that month as soon as I got the payment.

How can anyone forget to pay rent and why not write down when rent is due ?

Why the rage itk? Is everyone on benefits a "scrounger"? If you have no money a six week or whatever it is wait is very significant. Why do you conflate a job starter with benefit recipients in terms of payment delay the two are entirely different? What do the "scroungers" expect to be paid "first" for compared with job starters? Your "real world" is very predictable, and it seems just overall so...angry....why? Or i should say WHY!

No job starters don't usually have to wait for a month for their first payment, they would be paid at the end of the first month that they start (rarely a full month). The days of working a month in hand are long gone. If you're living hand-to-mouth then a month without money is very difficult. If they have a spare bedroom in their house and access to the internet and some computer skills I would recommend renting their room on airbnb.

Excellent post - that most here, have tried to replicate. ITK, for the first time is wrestling with the reality that the Tories' leaders are somewhat below par.

Hammond, May and Boris are non-entities; and all those who can't work are scroungers by definition. The Codnor man is even incapable of acknowledging that the Tories have generated a £2T National Debt¡

ITK is from a certain social class (real estate agents & bookies runners) who think the great unwashed are getting above their station in life and if they only accepted the pittance offered he could give Mrs ITK a bigger Mr Choo show allowance.

ITK has convinced me....ultimately I also agree with the Torie policy to be announced later today by The MP for Sparta (Reginald G Fwit) that the non productive disabled - and I include intellectually here - shall be exposed in pots and left to perish in the hills....

But i predict a hasty u-turn by 7pm when the PM realises she will lose all her majority and half the cabinet to the policy....

For people at their lowest ebb, the phone call, several letters and getting the landlord on side is an impossible task.
Not all landlords are relaxed. I certainly wouldn't be!

Seventeen weeks sometimes, Wyot, with not a penny coming in. It seems to me that the delays are deliberate. Either that, or confirmation that this government is incompetent and not fit for purpose.

17 weeks eh that is appalling.I would prefer to think incompetence is the reason rather than malevolance, but those phone charges make me unsure..what kind of mind charges those with the least to accesss basic necessities?

ITK I would like to think that at the least I am the "class" of person who sees human beings as just that and not just means to an end. That is not a political observation just a humanistic one. The problem with your perspective leads to the kind of situation jk has posted about re the 500 000 massacred.

Lose sight of the inherent value of people and see them as political or economic units and...well I just hope you or those you love never end up objectified in this way..

I fully agree Wyot. Of course, ITK's irritation at paying for some with no intention of working, (hopefully a minority) is perfectly reasonable too.

I think some people find it difficult to understand poverty,and how you cant make provision for emergencies (let alone 17 weeks!) if you are on benefits, because the money barely covers the bare essentials.

ITK has no interest in non-Tories.

But stays surprisingly silent on the inept ones - like May, Boris and Hammond.

Despite their inadequate status/performances, criticism doesn't come from rural Derbyshire!

However his hatred of the disadvantaged, disabled, needy, and vulnerable - knows no bounds.

Is this one of those ultra rare "examples" that mean an entire social change should be scrapped?

Many starting work wait a month before their first salary - and why should they be paid before they have done anything?? - so getting the dolers into the same mindset is perfectly understandable.

IF they ever get a job - stop laughing !!!!! - they will be ready for what to expect (however unlikely that is)

One "odd" example - probably caused because THEY couldn't be bothered to fill in the forms !!!! - does NOT make a rule !

It says "Over 3.4 million disabled people are in employment". How would they know? If you are in work you probably aren't claiming.
