I really enjoy Tom Robinson's programmes on BBC6 Music. A great range of music and a wonderfully radio-friendly voice.
I also remember his songs from the late 70s/early 80s.... 2468 Motorway, Up Against The Wall, Glad to Be Gay, Martin... and my favourite of all, War Baby. (I'd forgotten that he'd also written songs with Elton John and Peter Gabriel).
I had never seen him live before, but did so on Thursday.
He's doing a tour of smallish venues with a band, performing his 1978 (?) album Power In The Darkness.
It was absolutely fabulous. A tight band full of energy, with Robinson clearly just as passionate as ever about social justice, changing the words to some songs to reflect the fact that while some things have changed, the basic injustices remain.
I also loved the fact that he balanced the vehemence of his singing and playing with a genuine warmth and almost self-deprecating humour between songs.
