What strange ideas you have ITK. I don't think I read a single person saying they thought "the world would not stand by us" - everybody seems to think the Russians were probably responsible, though it has not yet been proven. And few seem to feel some kind of protest would not happen, with most of the world joining in a chorus of condemnation. Most, though, disagree with your certainty that nations would boycott the World Cup - but you may yet be proved right. I certainly feel this silly expulsion of diplomats is farting into the wind, with neither side caring at all - the only people who will suffer may be a few innocent citizens of countries whose Embassies cannot deal properly with their future plight. If you think Boris Johnson not attending a match between England and Tunisia matters, feel free to say so. But don't write silly posts about other members of this forum who have not said what you pretend they have.

I think it rather you that has some silly ideas, JK

The posters on here frequently rant on about "false accusations" etc and always question when someone is convicted (the Jury MUST have got it wrong !) but never ever, EVER do they question when someone is acquitted !

Are Juries always right when they release someone... and always wrong when they convict ?

Here's a classic example - www.kingofhits.co.uk/component/option,co...w/catid,2/id,175221/

Most ? Don't you mean a few silly little people who want to watch a silly game of football, while we put our hands up and surrender to aliens attacking us on our soil?

I do note you have accepted that I will be proved right eventually !

When and where did we do this?

Your example makes no sense.
Mr King actually states that he wont take sides, and my point is that when some lie, nobody is believed which puts verdicts in doubt.
It goes without saying that it goes both ways, so I didnt bother saying it!

Yes, now looks even more likely that a ban will be the obvious extension of action now that Russia has escalated action again, especially as (as In The Know said) the weapons inspectors will report within the next 10 days or so.

No option now but to increase the pressure.

Governments have been extremely clever to "hold the major sanction in reserve" and the Russians have been so stupid as to fall for it.

When the weapons inspectors report - and there is little or no doubt what their verdict will be .... then further punishment is inevitable.

Some of us have been able to see this all along, but others (too busy playing with their silly little footballs) have not had the foresight.

Russia about to escalate the stand-off !

Not a single person on this board believed the world would stand by us.

How wrong they were .... lol !

the "world" did not stand by Britain. The two most populous countries on the planet (whose combined population dwarfs the rest)..China and India expelled no-one. Nor did Israel or any Middle East country.

A thought-out article about why we should ignore the silly little boys and pull out of the World Cup.

Why won't the Tories pull out of the World Cup then?

If they feel so badly about Salisbury - it seems a rational decision to make.

Just like Wilson/Labour in the 60s couldn't put up with the treatment of the great Basil D'Oliverra (Dolly). Mentioned in your link.

Apartheid was dealt a mortal blow then - one boycott that worked...

Sounds lovely, doesn't it?
Can we send them MORE fans ?

It is more likely that England fans will be beaten to death by Russia fans, Russian police, or Russian secret police, be wrongfully arrested, illegally detained, or otherwise subject of international diplomatic incident than it is that England will crash out of the quarter-finals on penalties.

Not only are they inclined to do that anyway, but the Russian state media is currently telling them England is their main enemy.

Yes, its quite illogical that we are on "war" state and yet we play football with them.

But, as In The Know has said previously, you can see the case for a boycott "building up"

Proably lost of work behind the scenes, so just like the diplomatic expulsions, their is a domino effect (which very few expected to happen)

Despite being categorical that the Russians did the poisoning (Boris Johnson etc.) - the government is now only saying it's the 'only plausible explanation'.

And entirely different stance - and one which will need to be investigated and proven to the outside world, before the UK government view will be accepted again!

Pretty strong stuff :-

Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack also advised Australians who are planning to travel to reconsider.

“There is obviously a diplomatic row at the moment after those nerve agents were used,” he told the ABC today.

“If you don’t need to travel to Russia at the moment then think twice, think three times, about doing it.”

Plausible...maybe 6 Years ago
OPCW will now - in The Haig - consider the nerve gas evidence put forward by the UK.

Evidence original described as categorical - is now, only called plausible.

It is not whithin the weapons watchdog's brief to ascribe the agent's orign.

The World Cup will be over by the time this drawn out affair is concluded.

But three things are clear:-

- the world at large is apathetic

- the UK was too quick to make accusations

- boycotts are not being considered by any world cup finalists, including England - the aggrieved party...

Seems even the fans don't think it should be taking place ....

a World Cup that really should not happen …
