Free Gary Glitter!

He never did anything wrong. Lock up Jim Gamble instead for perverting the course of justice (one might also lock up Max Clifford, but he's already been locked up thanks to JK and is now dead).

So the masses of cruel and indecent images found and admitted to on his computer do not count as 'anything wrong'

Here is the small amount in general I have gleaned from a casual read of the news and items.

1. Pornography found on computer when left for repair and yes admitted to and was found guilty - No prior story of sexual abuse highlighted prior to the images discover on the computer and that small number of UK complainants only really noted at the trial 15 years or so later. (Got 16 years for that last trial)

As to what adjectives needed to describe the collection I have absolutely no idea. What I and other readers / listeners of news will know is that what is stated by the prosecution and police is often greatly exaggerated and or at times the find is not even illegal.

Time served and Gary / Paul said he was going through a bad patch. In any case that episode is history.

Then...
2. Vietnam - Was it a "set up" orchestrated by the journalist now banned from Thailand as I am lead to understand... It was something about the two girls of the mother Gary was living with. Did not take much notice. Certainly nothing clearly stated in the news just another she said etc and not making any sense at all.

All we can know for sure one is lying and one is not and we have no real idea who? Certainly no evidence beyond the very old fashion "beyond reasonable doubt" standard

3. Then UK latest round of utter stupidity of criminality by the legal system of breaking all procedural rules and protocols to get convictions. Apart from similar "word only" like Vietnam we have now what many of us readers of News had wondered "what the hell was the evidence" the jury had to convict on. Now the fans that attended the trial who seem confused and more into the music etc than fair trials etc. said they heard nothing that equaled evidence of guilt. The maker of the podcast even said he had argument with a fan re GG sleeping with a 12 year old so in spite of "no evidence" at the trial even this fan has the "belief" of underage sex thus the influence of media and popular belief as opposed to what facts are really known.

So the only certain piece of evidence in the reliable sense is pornography of some description was found that definitely related to GG. Crime admitted, time served. I do not know what suitable adjective are needed to describe the type illegality and quantity. As the other evidence we have is trials are bias police often corrupt and anything but an objective trial takes place.

That was a long post....

In all his trials,secrecy/bent coppers/planted evidence/entrapment etc no doubt played a part....doubt we will ever know....guilt or not we may never know......but I do object to saying he did nothing wrong.....he certainly is a sick w@nker to have such rubbish on his computer....and a complete fool to move out to SE Asia after serving a sentence here for such crimes.

Excellent post wjlmarsh. Your understanding of Gary Glitter's trials is very similar to mine.

Silent Minority, possessing information is never wrong. Possessing Mein Kampf is not wrong, and even more strangely, is not illegal. Isn't it ironic that possessing a book written by a propagandist who is supposed to have slaughtered several million is legal yet possessing child porn is not? Ironic indeed, I think!

I think the general free speech issue is a strong enough point on its own to prove that Gary Glitter did no wrong. However, there's another point that I also think is important to make which is similar to what wjlmarsh alluded to: The police often exaggerate and lie. Child pornography is very much what it says on the tin, but somehow the police and the media have a habit of twisting perceptions to the extent where they dishonestly call it "child abuse". Child pornography is rarely abuse. It is the same as pornography of over 18s except with under 18s. There really is little difference, other than the fact that porn of under 18s *might* be a little more clumsy, a little less hardcore and so on. But "horrific images of babies being tortured and killed" as professional liar Jim Gamble might like you to believe? Hell no, absolutely not! Pure fantasy. And proof of the sick kind of mind that Jim Gamble and his cronies have.

The problem you have here with any kind of sex trial and especially sexual trials as with GOOGLE Rolfs etc.
If you were accused of speeding down Oxford Street 1n 1968 and get found guilty with big press and all the trimmings you get jail com out a couple of years later someone else decides they want to accuse you of speeding in Regents Street in 1970 there is a good chance you would be found guilty purely based in the fact you were convicted of said crime before.
Now we're you guilty of both, one or neither to be honest the only people who know are the accused 100% or the accuser who know 100% they are lying or not.

With GG the truth is he had images of girls under 18 on his pc again what those images were only Mr Gaddesden and the police know oh and Mr PC World but all further convictions have been based on the fact Gary Glitter had been convicted of speeding (images) in 99.

Sadly true, and doubtless he's been used to up bent coppers conviction rates.
I've read pre 30s Hitler, was amused...I have zero plans to read/view similar content Glitter admitted to on his comp.
Glitter is in a trap, one he made worse by some very silly actions...others did worse, but didn't turn up to a press conference to apologise dressed to perform a concert....then joyously took one long holiday in the Pedozone....sadly he made his situation worse....he needed an even bigger Pedo to repair his pedo credentials.....unfortunately he is no more....
