CoronaVirus - am I too cynical? 4 Years, 2 Months ago
It's 2020 and the media, having run out of Prince Andrew stories and Harry And Meghan stories, has inflated the story of another form of 'flu into a "global killer epidemic". It appears the Corona Virus is nowhere near as lethal as Sars or Mers or Ebola. 'Flu like symptoms; yes it kills a few vulnerable, just like normal 'flu does. Yes; we need to find an antidote vaccine, as we surely will. Yes; China is panicking but that seems very media inspired too.

The epidemic is the 2020 media madness - a version of The Emperor's New Clothes. Gullible punters falling for simplistic stories. 'Twas always so. Hans Christian Andersen knew what he was doing.

Tell that to those infected - said to be in excess of 25,000, and to the almost 600 who have died.

And remember that no cure exists, and that the quarantine period is only halfway through.

No prognosis can yet be made - and to blame the media for a potential pandemic, is irrational.

Many more get 'flu yearly; many fewer die of it; no known cure for 'flu either - slow recovery. Vaccine for 'flu exists and soon will surely exist for CoronaVirus. To say Media is NOT responsible for circulation based panic and hysteria seems irrational to me.

The vaccine will probably be invented - but after what degree of spreading, further infections and deaths!

And the media is causing havoc - by making us aware of the facts, disturbing as they are?

In Australia - is the media also making matters worse by giving us the bushfire facts/information?!

Trotters darling. "And the animals looked from pigs to men and couldn't tell the difference". Sorry Mr Blair; may not have quoted exactly; getting old.

I mainly get my news from the BBC and haven't had the impression that they were being particularly alarmist. CNN International, on the other hand, does sometimes seem to like a good catastrophe and play it along the lines of "don't panic! don't panic! we're all going to dieeeeeee!".

All news outlets are bull shit. CNN are the BBC of America. Don Lemon is a racist, I can't understand why Brian Stelter, is employed he is the definition of fake news and Mark Dice does a marvelous impression of him.

Yet the numbers still rise.

636 now dead - with over 31,000 infected.

And no vaccine yet!

Perhaps it's getting near the time, to be alarmist!?

Deaths from 'flu in the UK winter 2017-2018

The number of winter deaths last year the hit highest level in more than 40 years after the failure of last year's flu jab. There were an estimated 50,100 excess winter deaths in England and Wales in 2017/18 - the highest recorded since winter 1975/76, figures from the Office for National Statistics show.30 Nov 2018

Only 138 more deaths for Coranavirus to equal SARS - in 2003!

This could occur at the weekend - with about 1 in 4/5, of those tested on the Yokohama ship, testing positive.

Maybe the World Health Organisation is lying too...

They're carrying on like a Pork Chop in Australia and proclaiming Doom & Gloom and All Hell is Breaking Loose as they quarantine people on Christmas Island (middle of frigging no-where) and 1000s of people are stuck on what looks like a hideous down-market cruise ship because some are ill.

## Point of Order JK- actually Influenza is probably far more dangerous and does carry off many people every year and also has the capacity to kill 10,000s if let loose.

## Meanwhile around 3.1 million children die from malnutrition each year but no-one gives a stuff (probably because they have dark skin)

Headline to die for:

New Prince Harry drama: MEGHAN MARKLE has the Coronavirus
Duchess of Sussex quarantined ! Palace says "Archie is safe"

Do you still actually believe this?

The media have many faults.

But they can't be blamed for viruses or bushfires.

Or for reporting thereon...

I neither believe nor disbelieve but it is a definite possibility that the media exaggerates, as usual, in order to create "a better story". We shall know within a few weeks.

You could be experiencing a "Boy who cried wolf" effect, JK. The media might not be exaggerating this time.
