majority of people in Oz wearing masks in street at present.

Mandatory in supermarkets, restaurants etc.

I've even seen people driving solo in cars wearing them which I think is quite weird.

Personally I find a mask quite suffocating and avoid going out as much as possible

They are coming I fear. The rates will continue to rise. Politicians won't question their approach since March or admit failings (what happened to the £22 billion trace and track system? Would we be in this mess if it had been effective?) so will blame us. I predict masks everywhere outdoors next week and all manner of further absurdities coming...

The man is bully and a coward he was scared to do the election he knew he would lose. He could of arranged postal voting or would he know that would of been rigged against him ?

I wear a mask when I am in the shop but find it very tricky, wearing glasses and being short sighted don't help. I asked my local MP what the best advice is - glasses get steamed up as I enter a shop straight away, if I take them off I can't see.

I wore the mask under the nose just so I could get a few minutes of freedom so shop assistant had a go at me and I said to him 'hold my glasses and we go out outside' funny how 'Tinpot Hitlers' always backdown when challenged.

Growing up during The Troubles really does sort the men out from the boys.

I go for an hours walk a morning early. It is a lovely, peaceful time of day. The very few people about give one another space. Wearing a mask will not add to the experience. I won't say ruin it; but I don't wish to be reminded of the madness every time I breathe...

Made me smile today, because I pass a Ferrari/Maserati dealership on my walk and there were 4 prople on site in the office.

If they were selling hybrids or electric cars then it's essential remember the elite want us to spend money we don't have on electric cars. I looked at trading my truck for a hybrid or a new tank I still need to find the extra 33k on top. I'm not driving a fucking Nissan.

Most supermarkets are now making masks compulsory - as are some markets and centres. And it's beginning to look like it'll be the norm everywhere soon - except perhaps at home or in the great outdoors.

Bearing in the mind the growing infection rates, town and city dwellers should get over any reluctance to wear a mask - even on a temporarily quiet street - if the virus spread can be curtailed.

Personally I'd wear a crash helmet if told it'd stop me getting the virus - and the fact that nobody knows whether masks or helmets are effective - is a conversation for another virus-free day.

Masks and other restrictions don't seem to have done much to curtail the virus here thus far Alison. But I am touched by your faith in the orthodox mantras.

I don't know when you imagine this "virus free" day is going to arrive? Best invest in a very comfortable helmet. Or my suggestion (radical these days...) examine the available evidence for mask efficacy now and make your own mind up?

There is no unanimity among experts though Alison. You can pick your experts (yes of course as can I) as the Gov does to suit its political strategy.

1.8% of those who wore masks and 2.1% of those who didn't caught C19. The authors said there could be "marginal" benefits but "could not rule out that the mask does not protect the wearer."

So yes masks could protect the wearer marginally (your reference actually doesn't say a lot more than this just with a positive spin) or they may be doing nothing.

I suspect to achieve anything even marginal you need a JK astronaut style contraption (when do you see on TV scientists entering a chemical leak site wearing civilian clothes and a flappy hankie resting over their mouths? No they all look like JK in a mask...)

But flappy hankies can make people feel better, and many have been deliberately psychologically damaged by their own Government; so to this extent they have an application.
