for those incredibly impressed by these press releases... "X signs million pound deal"...
I invented this scam to impress the tabloids 35 years ago.
It goes like this...
I'll offer you a million quid deal if you like (I invented them for PR at UK Records).
First album which cost you 5K to make - I'll give you £1 for.
Option to pick up second album at £10,000 advance (on your own royalties not paid by then if earned from first album).
Option for third album at £50,000 (ditto... still your own money).
Options on fourth and fifth albums at £450K, £500K (no fucking way but let's see if it does sell and you are due that in royalties)...
voila! Million pound deal!!
Lots of stupid tabloid and trade publicity which anyone with brains ignores (but didn't when I invented it 35 years ago)
There you go. Simple as that.
