May I urge any of you thinking of travelling abroad to stay in the IBIS chain of hotels?
They are remarkably cheap - £30-£40 a night.
The rooms are spotless with TV and phones and baths. The staff are friendly and helpful and smiling. Breakfast is universally magnificent; a buffet with fresh bread, slices of delicious ham, coffee, tea and cereals, boiled eggs and, again, very reasonable.
This applies specifically to France but the chain (franchises I think) is expanding everywhere. The IBIS in Marrakech can cost a mere £25 a night and is right up to standard (and swear they will have WiFi shortly).
I’ve been a fan for 15 years now. I cannot recommend them too highly.
