As I've always said, it's the genuinely abused who are suffering most when false accusers lie. And as Saunders said - they can get things wrong but not the really serious things (like, as made clear in the edit, abduction and murder).

That is what does the real damage. When false accusers go too far and it can be illustrated (with proof) that they have made things up. Unless, of course, every pupil in a school, all local papers, hospitals and police, are covering up for the establishment when a child was killed by a car.

Panorama and the BBC did not dare to suggest that media coverage and moral panic can cause thousands to exaggerate, inflate or invent similar stories, but they came close enough for any viewer with more than one brain cell to put two and two together and make four.
