Why is the Lynne Owens scandal important?
Monday, 15 August 2016
Because it illustrates that the very top of our Police Force regards the media as the most important employer it has. They want to impress and please the media. And they think the way to do that is to deliver success in the conviction rates.

To do that is easiest in the area of sex offences where no proof or evidence is needed.

So arrest before investigation makes sense. Less important is whether or not claims are true. And it is a very short step to individual police officers assisting witnesses or victims (claimed) and not looking for evidence that they are lying, exaggerating or inventing. As the David Bryant/Danny Day fiasco exemplifies.

That is when slackness and incompetence turns into criminality. And our police being criminals is one of the ultimate nightmares for any society.
