Hard Times for These Times - Charles Dickens
Monday, 27 June 2011
My annual re-read of a Dickens novel is particularly apt at present. Banks? Business men? Strikes? They are there - written 150 years ago and still perfectly apposite today. He was such a genius. My favourite writer ever; I haven't read this for ages but Bounderby, Gradgrind, Coketown, Stephen Blackpool and Mrs Sparsit are just as fresh as ever. It's quite short for Dickens and an easy read. If you've never read it - go to it!
