many experiments have been done to assess people's memories of events.
My favourite involved the London School of Economics that put 10 people on a tube train and asked them to assess various people that got on and off (all part of the experiment) as the train progressed.
Few agreed on even the most basic descriptions with personal opinion playing a big part of 'memory'.
ie: a young black woman described a young black man as "handsome and someone she'd like to talk too".. and elderly lady described the same black man as "menacing and he made her feel uncomfortable".
accurately remembering events from 20/30/40 years ago ???
