LEANNE BLACK (32) HAS BEEN JAILED for two years after making FIVE false rape allegations against her ex-boyfriends in eight years.

R V NYIRA LAWRENCE [2013] EWCA Crim 1054 is an interesting appeal case. Ms Lawrence originally pleaded guilty to possessing a prohibited weapon - specifically a shotgun. It would appear that she pled guilty believing at the time that the gun was a prohibited weapon. However, her conviction was quashed at appeal because of the measurements of the gun.

IN R V MCKNIGHT (PAUL ANTHONY) [2013] EWCA Crim 937, Mr McKnight’s conviction for using a false instrument was quashed; IN R V WRIGHT (JACKSON) & ORS [2013] EWCA Crim 1217, Mr Wright’s conviction for causing grievous bodily harm with intent, contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, was quashed as Mr Wright had not been successfully identified as being involved in the attack.

WAYNE COLLINS (25) IS CURRENTLY SERVING an 18-year sentence after being convicted for arson with intent to endanger life, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, and rioting; this is despite not actually doing any of these things; PATRICK LIVINGSTONE (62) has had his murder conviction quashed after spending 17 years in prison for the alleged offence.

IN R V STEPHEN SMITH [2013] EWCA Crim 1011, Mr Smith’s conviction for failing to provide details of his change of circumstances when he was in receipt of Severe Disablement Allowance (since replaced by Employment and Support Allowance) was quashed; UNITED AGAINST INJUSTICE’S 12th National Miscarriage of Justice Day is due to be held on 12th October 2013.[/quote]

My favourite involved the London School of Economics that put 10 people on a tube train and asked them to assess various people that got on and off (all part of the experiment) as the train progressed. Few agreed on even the most basic descriptions with personal opinion playing a big part of 'memory'. ie: a young black woman described a young black man as "handsome and someone she'd like to talk too".. and elderly lady described the same black man as "menacing and he made her feel uncomfortable". accurately remembering events from 20/30/40 years ago ???
