I was once cruised very aggressively and purposefully by a young boy, who I would have guessed was no more than 13yrs. I was not, and am not attracted to 'children' and ignored his advances and got away from him, but the whole experience really shocked me. I was not shocked by the fact that he was gay, but that he was so aggressive and yes, predatory at such a young age.

Is this what "hiding in plain sight" looks like?

That's what disturbs me; we have become such a simplistic society that even intelligent commentators fall for the extreme slogans.
And sex appears to be the area where the British are worst affected. Other races and countries (like the USA and Australia - mentioned by Hedda - and Russia - mentioned by Stephen - and some quite ghastly regimes like the ruling fundamentalist Islamics in Iran) have hangups and oddities but the obsession with sex seems to have permeated us Brits since the Victorian era (were we different before that?).
I just can't see how child protection has anything to do with sexual hang ups or arresting people thirty years after an (often non) event or greed for compensation and attention.
To deny that children can do bad things is to deny that they have free will and personality. Anyone can become mean and nasty if it is encouraged, but nobody is born evil.
"child protection" is a complete sham. Obviously all those so-called charities and the MWTs of the world are miserable failures as they solve nothing and prevent nothing from happening ( and I seriously question their obsession with the subject).
Politicians have crossed a line aided by ghastly newspapers (ie : the revolting Sun which promotes sex abuse and then condemns it)..they now attempt to mould society into something it can never be : that one day a person is 'illegal' and following their birthday at the stroke of mid-night, they somehow become 'legal' - this is sheer madness.
By rights no-one should drive a car until they are well into their 20s (18/19 year olds still have an 'invincible' belief that no harm can come to them)...and so on.
The obsession with sex is the sign of a sick society.
I find none of this obsession in most Asian countries.
