A five minutes segment of the phenomenon of Beatlemania (in the UK) was aired on CBS Morning News on Nov 22nd 1963. It was due to be repeated that evening on the main news - but all programming was disrupted by the assassination earlier that day of JFK. (The segment was finally aired on Dec 10th)
For the next month the whole USA was in virtual mourning.
Then a lone radio station (Washington's WWDC) played an advance copy of "I Want To Hold Your Hand" on Dec 17th (not due for release until mid-January). The audience response was overwhelming - and the station was bombarded with calls for repeat plays. It was as if America had "woken up".
Demand spread prompting Capitol Records to bring forward the release date. It sold one million copies in 10 days, and topped the charts just a few days prior to The Beatles first US visit (to play the Ed Sullivan show.
By May 1964 the Beatles had the entire Top 5 singles in the US Charts.

What I find hardest to understand (if Oswald was innocent) is why he fled the bookstore depository after the shooting?
All the other staff had been allowed out onto the street (to see the President) and then returned to work. In fact, when the police came to the building a roll call (of staff) was made and only Oswald was missing.
Remember, that when he was first arrested it was (for many hours) only in connection with the shooting of police officer Tippett (totally un-connected with the Kennedy assassination).
It seems strange that anyone who would plan an assassination so well (if he did) did not plan (at all?) for eventualities after the shooting had taken place?
