hedda	1998 ? we have politicians amongst us who ordered the murder of tens of thousands of Iraqis and Afghanis from 2001 onwards. none of this matters when there is a 1965 breast groper to pursue.

BUT we all know that the government were holding talks with the IRA (when the IRA could not be heard - by us - on TV news) - so such hypocrisy does go on. People "give in" to "terrorism" when they know they can't win !!!! I bet the people of Northern Ireland are pleased that a settlement has been reached (and are now prospering quite well, I hear).

I'm all for peace, I'm all for political process.....but at the expense of not pursuing CRIMINAL activity ? It does smack of a backdoor compromise where previously compromise was not negotiable......and of course, in situations like this there is always the debate of who has given up the most and who has recieved the most in terms of the final aims?
JK2006	Calls to end prosecutions against IRA killers before 1998... I think there are many points on both sides of this discussion but it does seem odd to me that we Brits are prepared to talk about this whilst people who may or may not have had consensual sex forty years ago are facing years in prison.
