Whatever they were up to ... low flying over a city is a very dangerous thing to do (as has been demonstrated).

There are very few instances where this can be justified

Perhaps it just lost control and couldn't help where it ended up landing?
Indeed

But my point is what was so urgent / important that warrants low flying over busy built-up area in the first place?

Looking for people parked on double yellow line maybe ?
Probably people growing cannabis or some fugitive on the run...

Highly likely Anon. Probably mechanical failure.

I do hope (but am not holding my breath) that when the reason for the police flying around, wasting our time and money, is finally revealed (at the inquiry?) we are not even more shocked.

Someone suggested to me a while ago that a lot of the time their flying about in these helicopters their looking out for people growing cannabis?

... with heat-seeking lamps? Quite possible.

Whatever they were up to ... low flying over a city is a very dangerous thing to do (as has been demonstrated).

There are very few instances where this can be justified - ie risk vs result - so I repeat .... I do hope that when the reason for the police flying around, wasting our time and money, is finally revealed (at the inquiry?) we are not even more shocked.

Standing on top deck of a P&O boat in Dover this morning another police copter flew over the town.
Yes you do have to ask if all the flights are important.
