The house - still standing, Grade II listed, now home to Sheffield City Libraries - built by the Duke of Norfolk for his agent Vincent Eyre. (It is on the junction of (Earl of) Arundel Gate and (Earl of) Surrey Row.
No evidence that Eyre ever actually lived there (he prefered his house at the junction of Fargate and (Duke of) Norfolk Row (which is now the THREE mobile phone shop !)
The surrounding are is littered with streets etc named after the Duke (and his titles) - Surrey Street, Norfolk Street etc and on either side are Eyre Lane and Eyre Street !
The house was lived in for some time by a man called Leader, hence its known locally as Leader House.
