Pru The number of superficial characters around is bad enough, but what makes it worse is the incredible deference they seem to inspire amongst the rest of us. I notice it in how many ordinary punters call these twits by their first names, as if they're personal friends and fans. Take Cowell, the new Bubonic Plagiarist, who is usually referred to as 'Simon' by people who've never met him. It sounds horribly meek and forelock-tugging, and actually suggests they think such absurd little rip-off merchants are genuinely impressive. We need a really fierce satirical movement to make these people squirm. Even HIGNFY pleases its supposed targets these days, when it ought to be enraging them. We need healthy irreverence, cutting through the hype that surrounds the Cowells of this world.
JK2006 Simplification - slogan politics - headline morality - black and white and no shades… as a species we seem increasingly unable to see the complex.

The result is laws and morals and entertainment that are caricatures. Which encourages similar behaviour.

We are more complicated than that. Or are we? The new generations do seem frighteningly lacking in depth. My generation will soon be dead. So, soon after, will be our children's generation. I've been saying for some time I think we may see the end of the species before long.

Perhaps soon instead of slightly alive and slightly dead human beings will all, on this planet, be dead. Next please.
