JK2006 Biggest costs; Barristers (QCs) for pre trial, trials (two) and appeals (numerous). Solicitors. Investigations (into my movements - i.e. being in America when one crime was meant to have been committed in London - and into false accusers - i.e. main accuser had serious charges against him dropped when he agreed to testify). I had to abandon Legal Aid to get the best QCs.
Gnomo Still trying to work out how your defence costs could have come anywhere near £1million JK. In you book you refer to obtaining some legal aid, and then also refer to having paid £50,000 advance to your legal team.

It's the principal, not the amount. If he only spent a fiver it would still be outrageous that someone is forced to pay to defend themselves from ludicrous allegations.
Not everybody has cash. Presumably these are the ones in jail?

I don't think it enters the heads of the general public just how much is lost defending yourself, win or lose.

look at DLT- losing his home.

With Evans there was great unfairness- a top brief was used by the prosecution so he needed likewise.

Time criminal cases were on par with civil cases where losers generally pay costs. Coppers may think twice.
