Let me speculate...............
UKIP win the Euro Elections in the UK.....shock horror, but they do (not a shock to me, see below*)
They now have a greater platform to agitate in the EU forum, is that a bad thing? Think about it......
The EU forum is so far removed from daily life, but it shapes legislation through multiple 10's of countries without so much as a murmour for any but the most suprising rule changes....I'm talking real nitty gritty EU stuff here....End of Life Vehicle Directives, End Of Life Electrical Items Directives, Control of Chemical Substance Catalogues (REACH) etc......massive economic impacts are lead by these 'rules', but there is little that each member state can do when the wheels are set in motion.......
So agitating for EU reform, and asking the question 'do things have to be like they are?' might be a force for good......the EU isn't going to want to allow any major member state leave, one goes, the whole disintegration follows....it isn't in the EU interest.....what it will do is morph into a more suggestable and pragmatic forum where member states can gain some control back, but still share and evaluate new ideas.....and thats how it should be
* UKIP being popular in the EU vote - The Euro Elections are not taken seriously as indicated by turnout. It is a perfect forum for protest, because think about it, the elctorate doesn't associate the Euro Elections with any direct impact on the UK General Election, it won't change the PM or the coalition.....so why not experiment with a new vote? NOBODY should argue against this individual right to do this, the arguements always come from 'the established parties' who want status quo, but who haven't the ability to engage properly.........same old, same old
Some people fear change, some embrace it.........change might be bad, might be good, but is it good to never change?
