Topic History of: Time for a sex referendum in Great Britain

JK2006 I think it's time for a referendum but not for the trivial issue of the EU but for the huge problem of SEX. Does the majority of the UK public support the current appalling state of sex laws or do we only hear from the minority of obsessed shouters and "great story" media?

But a referendum needs to be intelligent. Not stupid questions like "should women and vulnerable children be protected from maniacs?".

Until we genuinely know how our society feels about age of consent, laws, prosecutions and so on, this insane situation will carry on. My friends in Europe were all amazed by my experiences - not one other country (apart from Ireland) has laws which British Justice (wrongly) says I broke. There are statutes of limitations, different ages of consent and no prosecutions in France, Italy, Germany, Scandinavia, Spain, Portugal. Indeed one national paper at the time of my conviction ran an article about how my "crimes" would not have been crimes in Europe.

Do we Brits REALLY want this madness? The insanity of the DLT/Coronation Street and other trials? The expense? The unfairness? Do MOST Brits like the exposure type TV programmes? Are we that different to the Italians, French, Spanish?

If we are, let's have it confirmed. If not, let's have it changed.
