I genuinely put it down to sunshine and a good standard of living even if you are on the dole - there are great social services and a livable social security. Given that there are nearly 3 million Brits and at least 5 million second generation Brits/Irish/Scots it cannot be a national trait.....the compensation angle surely is a driving force in the UK.
