No sooner has a Pope commenced appropriate action - and he is gone. Or retired, like the last one.

Possibly but he probably doesn't exist and, if he did, he might quite fancy amassing a fortune for his old age or his family (if he's not celibate). |

Fair enough - but do you not suspect that a man of this calibre, intellect, ability and accumulated experience - aged c55 - could achieve an awful lot more with the likelihood of a much longer time in the job.
